update

i know. i know - it's been more than a month since our last post - shameful. if you ever want to know how many people really visit your blog and how often, just take a little posting hiatus, then wait for the backlash :). we're taking our beatings with a smile tho, glad to know so many of you are enjoying watching our lil' bumble bee grow up. and we promise to satisfy your needs for fresh footage very soon.

our problem (or excuse) has been this. my laptop fell sick and had to be fed-exd to new jersey for some tests. and i've liquidated a ton of camera gear on craigs list, leaving me shooting film. love, love shooting film but the process has gone from shoot, upload - to shoot, develop, scan and upload. and only jonathans work laptop to upload to, which he almost always has with him. mas dificil, no? hence, the dreadful lapse.

it's been a big month for adda. she got her first tooth on thanksgiving and is showing it off with every smile. she says da-da (a noise she's been able to make for awhile but has just recently become obvious that it's clearly directed at jonathan). she's started eating food. green beans and carrots are pretty good. peas and squash? not so much. tried sweet potatoes the other night and she just sprayed us with them - wouldn't swallow a bite. she's holding herself up well enough to ride in the shopping cart sans her car seat - which she thinks is very cool. the first time i put her in it, her eyes were so big and she leaned forward and held onto the handle with a white-knuckle grip. when we started moving she was so excited, kicked and squealed with delight and didn't stop. i wanted to kick and squeal a bit too, knowing the transition is gonna make grocery shopping so much easier.

she's become a master hair puller. we're always prying strands from her mouth and little fists, sometimes they're in her diaper or wrapped between a couple toes. she found her own hair recently and i can't help noticing in stark contrast how gently she plays with it - just twirling her fingers around and petting it with curiosity. mommy's hair could stand to be on the receiving end of such kindness as she prefers to shake mine around kind of violently and then shove it in her mouth. she learned really early that if she grabbed 2 fists full, i couldn't put her down. and so it still goes...i may soon be bald.

she's still got her mushy-gushy thighs and pillowy cheeks. we pretty much kiss on them all day long since she's not big enough to ask us to stop. she's really interested in getting her mitts on our phones, the remote control and the computer keyboard. she loves showertime, being tickled and petting the cat & dog. she likes to take her socks off and eat her own toes. she does not like to wear bibs, have her arms navigated thru a long sleeved shirt or for you to control her hands in any way for any reason. there will be no patty-caking anytime soon.

she really really wants to be crawling, but just hasn't been able to put it all together yet. you can tell she's frustrated. she'll get her legs under her with her lil but sticking up in the air, but then collapse back down on her tummy. she's so close.

and yeeoooowl! she's learned how to bite! she tested out that new razor sharp tooth the other day while nursing. i screamed. wide-eyed, she clamped down harder. i screamed again. she screamed. and we both burst into tears. awful, terrible, horrible pain down to my toenails - something that possibly rivaled labor. thought i was going to have to take stitches. has re-occured since and sadly, has taken that sweet, peaceful feeding time to a time of high alert. i pray it doesn't last.

she's getting a new little brother or sister next summer. turns out the mystery fatigue was prego fatigue. we're about 11 weeks along, due july 5th-ish. unbelievable, completely accidental and crazy yummy good.

nap time

adda found all the celebrating to be quite exhausting. she slept 13 hours last night and is snugged up right now, enjoying her 2nd nap of the day.

celebrations

spent the last 2 weekends celebrating jonathans 30th birthday & our marriage becoming officially legal. turns out, getting married 2x is kinda fun. adda was dangling happily in my arms while we said some quick courthouse rendition of vows. she let out a little squeal and kicked her legs when they pronounced us husband & wife - and the whole thing took about 3 minutes - hilarious.

mondays

i think adda is learning early in life to hate mondays. jonathan goes back to work and she misses him and the extra attention/stimulation that the weekend provides. if we've travelled, it's always worse - the more fun we've had, the more i know i'm in for it come monday. she doesn't hold back on her boredom or disappointment and this past monday she protested the commonplace ALL DAY LONG. i can just see her going "why don't you take me for a bike ride and build me a bonfire? why don't we go walking and look at the stars? why can't i sleep w/ you, why can't we sleep outside? why do we have to pay bills and swiffer the floors and put away dishes - we did all that stuff last week". oh mondays...

new river state park bike trail

went camping/biking along the new river this past weekend - was the best time i've had in awhile. the combination of forest+exercise+family is so nourishing and even after our sleepless night and 22 mile ride, i came home feeling completely rested. the new river is the oldest river in the u.s. and presumed to be the second oldest in the world, after the nile. it's also one of the few that flow from south to north.

bought a kiddie trailer for adda and she loved it. kicked and babbled and fell asleep - she's so happy in motion. went down to 35 at night so we really had to bundle her. the next morning, the whole valley was steeped in fog, ethereal & beautiful w/ steam rising from the river. there were horses frolicking, dew drops dripping from cob webs, trees reflecting in the shallows and others showing the first signs of fall. i forgot how amazing everything looks at first light, and the sweet smells and quiet energy of a new day just begun. it's been too long - so i promised myself that i'd peel out of bed at dark and sneak into the woods at dawn again, one day very soon.
